Charity Info

Charity Nomination Criteria

Nominated charities must meet the following criteria:

It must be a registered Charity (the 15-digit registration number will be required in the nomination form)


The Charity must have a local presence in the Comox Valley community.

 

The Charity must issue a charitable donation receipt to every member within CRA deadline.


The Charity must spend the received funds within the community.


 

The Charity must agree that they will not use the membership list to solicit further funds
 

The selected Charity must be able to come to the meeting following their fund award to share how the funds were or will be used. 
 

Charity nominations falling under the following categories will not be considered:

  • Political parties or affiliated activities

  • Religious activities

  • Programs or initiatives outside Comox Valley market area

  • Controversial issues

  • Organizations that have not submitted satisfactory final reports from previously received funding

Nominating Charities

To nominate a charity:

Ensure your charity meets the above criteria.

Fill out a Charity Nomination Form a minimum of two weeks before the next members' meeting.

Create a five-minute verbal presentation that you or another member will give if your charity is drawn from the basket at a meeting.

Provide 100+ Women Who Care Comox Valley Organizing Committee with a copy of your presentation if you or another member is not able to do the presentation. A member of the 100+ Women Who Care Comox Valley Organizing Committee will present on your behalf.

Charity Basket

Charities nominated and vetted a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the meeting will be added to the Charity Basket. 

Charities may be nominated by more than one member.  The charity will have their name in the basket for each nomination,  i.e if a charity has 3 nominations from separate members then that charity will have 3 nominations in the basket.  

Each member may only have one nomination in the charity basket at any time. She can withdraw a nomination and replace it with another at any time up to 2 weeks prior to the meeting by contacting us.

Once a charity has been awarded funds, it will not be eligible for nomination for three years.

Looking for a list of Comox Valley Charities?

Currently, there is not a comprehensive list of charities in the Comox Valley area. Two resources that you may find useful for searching local charities are:

 

1. Canada Revenue Agency

For each community in Comox Valley, enter the community name under “City” and enter BC under “Province”.

​

100+ Women Who Care Comox Valley encompasses the following communities:

Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, north to Black Creek, Denman Island, Hornby Island and south to Fanny Bay.

 

2. Canada Helps

Under “Search by Charity Keywords”, enter individually any of the above communities.

At our October 2025 meeting, our chosen charity was Sharing the Christmas Spirit.

Sharing the Christmas Spirit provides food hampers and holiday gifts to over 500 families in need in the Comox Valley, BC, by matching registered families with generous sponsors from local schools, businesses, and individuals.

$16,000 donated to: CV Ground Search & Rescue

At our July 2025 meeting, our chosen charity was Comox Valley Ground Search & Rescue

CVGSAR is a volunteer organization providing a wide range of search and rescue services, including rope and swift water rescue, avalanche rescue, and first aid. Coverage area ranges from Oyster River in the north to Cook Creek in the south and from Buttle Lake in the west to the Georgia Strait in the east, including Denman and Hornby Islands. 

$15,700 donated to: Comox Valley Hospice

At our April 2025 meeting, our chosen charity was the Comox Valley Hospice Society

The Comox Valley Hospice Society team partners with Community Physicians, allied Health Professionals, Island Health’s Hospice and Palliative Care End-Of-Life Program & Home and Community Care Nursing, residential care providers and a variety of other related community organizations to provide education, care and support to people in the Comox Valley.

$14,600 donated to: Comox Valley Land Trust

At our January 2025 meeting, our chosen charity was the Comox Valley Land Trust.

The Comox Valley Land Trust promotes, protects, conserves, and restores the ecologically significant land, waters, and wildlife habitat of the Comox Valley.
